June 6, 2017: Line Locating & Valve Exercising; North Vernon

June 6, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 12:30 pm

Line Locating Techniques

Line locating is more important than ever as today’s public works crews are smaller, making efficiency, lost revenue reduction, and less down time more challenging to achieve. During this training, we will discuss the proper techniques involved with line locating. These will include basic locating theory, importance of grounding, direct       connections, inductive locating, frequencies, tracer wire issues, and problem solving. A hands-on demonstration will be conducted as well.

Attendees can bring their own locating equipment to discuss with our instructors any issues they may be having or repair questions.

Valve Exercising

This session will cover scheduled valve exercising programs. Some key areas to be   discussed are: extending the useful life of your valves; location verification, performance evaluation, faster response in emergency situations; the right tools and resources       required to implement an exercising program; how much time is required for “your”     distribution system; priority areas/critical system valves/fire and safety systems/ hospital and life related/line break
response; getting started; problem potentials. A hands-on demonstration will be conducted as well.
