April 24, 2019 Valve Insertion Under Pressure & New Line Locating Technology – Hammond

April 24, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 12:30 pm

This workshop will provide an overview of the proven technologies to make repairs and additions to distribution and transmission mains while maintaining system pressure; aiding the attendees to remain regulation compliant as it relates to water quality and employee  safety, and at the same time reducing the risks associated with system shutdown.

Different types of installation techniques and the evolution of processes will be covered.  Also  discussed will be processes related to shutting down utility service during the normal or         emergency repair and replacement of common items (i.e. fire-hydrants, valves, pipe and          appurtenances).

Trends and greatest challenges will be identified: water conservation, aging infrastructure, poor maps and valve location, time constraints, consumer confidence reporting, trench safety, backflow, establishing isolation zones for security reasons, asset management, customer complaints, introducing chlorinated water into streams and ponds, and any other associated risks/hurdles that are inherent with system shutdown.

Basic principles of line locating tools, demonstration, and how the newest features of these tools can aid in underground pipe location using either direct connected or passive methods.
