TOWN OF LAPEL, INDIANA
POSITION: Drinking Water Operator DEPARTMENT: Town Utilities-Drinking Water
REPORTS TO: Utility Director WORK SCHEDULE: 7:00 am TO 3:30 pm
On call on week nights, weekends, and Holidays in Rotation with other staff
DATE WRITTEN: November 2020 STATUS: Full-Time
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
Incumbent serves as the Drinking Water Operator for the Town of Lapel Utilities. Incumbent is responsible for overseeing overall department objectives in compliance with the facility master plan, local ordinances and policies, and state and federal requirements

ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Responsible to treat incoming well water to produce a high-quality drinking water that meets requirements.
Responsible to treat enough water to meet demand.
Oversees all plant operations, ensuring compliance with IDEM and US EPA requirements.
To conduct testing for process control and compliance.
To conduct compliance sampling and ensure samples are delivered to the laboratory and results received from the laboratory.
To perform preventative and emergency maintenance on equipment and facilities to ensure functionality.
To order supplies to ensure treatment and testing are adequate.
To schedule and oversee testing and cleaning of wells
To record operational and water quality data for reports.
To review and recommend revisions to SOPs
To input and to update data in the GIS system
To check wells weekly in warm months and daily in cold months and record the static levels.
To respond to work orders.
To back wash filters as needed based upon loss of head and water quality
To flush hydrants twice a year and perform hydrant maintenance annually
To turn valves annually
To maintain the Backflow Prevention and Wellhead Protection Programs
To change or install service lines, meters, shut offs valves, and pits
To read meters
To locate utility pipelines
Assist in the design, construction, and implementation of new projects
To maintain the Town Owned work vehicle in clean working order. To have the routine and emergency maintenance performed.
To train other utility employees to operate and maintain Drinking Water Operations
To be trained in Waste Water, Natural Gas, and Street Department operations
To perform all jobs using safety measures and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
High School Diploma or GED Required
Trained in Drinking Water Operations preferred
WT3 Water Treatment Plant Operator Licensed by the State of Indiana preferred
DSM Water Distribution System Operator Licensed by the State of Indiana preferred
