Operational Control of Wastewater Lagoon Systems: Biological Processes, Effluent Reliability, and Field Implementation
This training focuses on treatment principles, operational monitoring, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance practices necessary to maintain permit compliance and system reliability of wastewater lagoons. Participants will review lagoon classifications, treatment mechanisms, oxygen transfer principles, algae bacteria symbiosis, and seasonal impacts including thermal stratification and turnover. The course also addresses loading rates, hydraulic retention time, sludge management, aeration system considerations, and common causes of effluent violations. Instruction includes practical field-based examples, visual demonstrations, and scenario discussions to reinforce application of concepts in operations. This training supports operator proficiency, regulatory compliance, and sustainable lagoon management practices for small and rural wastewater utilities.
Risk Assessment and Emergency Response Training
The training will provide an overall guide to utility planning for contamination threats and incidents involving water and wastewater systems. The training will provide a brief discussion of the nature of contamination events and describe the planning activities that a utility may undertake to prepare for a response that will include an initial risk assessment. All stakeholders involved in planning for or responding to a contamination threat or incident should review this training. This includes utilities, emergency responders, regulators, and health agencies.
Training will provide templates for risk assessments and emergency response plans.
