Job Opening: Operation Specialist & Maintenance Position; Michigan City Water Works; Michigan City, IN

At our Filtration Plant, we are looking to fill an Operation Specialist position, as well as a Maintenance position.  The Operation Specialist operates the water filtration plant, and the Maintenance position conducts general facility maintenance and fills in for Operation Specialists.

 

The Operation Specialist works rotating 8-hour shifts, 6 days on, 2 days off, that includes weekends and holidays.  The Maintenance position generally works weekdays, unless covering for an Operation Specialist or called in for an emergency.

 

The Operation Specialist position requires the ability to monitor and accurately document facility operations at the plant and in the distribution system.   The observations used include and are not limited to visual inspection, system controls notifications, sampling and laboratory testing, as well as listening.  The ability to use these observations to make adjustments to the operations of the facilities within parameters set by supervision is needed.  Additionally, the position requires:  the ability to lift 75 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and wear the necessary PPE; high school diploma or equivalent; capability of being contacted for after-hours call-in or fill-in for other Operation Specialists on a rotating shift as required; knowledge in the use of computers; ability to communicate with the public using a telephone; and reliable transportation.  Two (2) years of work experience in drinking water treatment plant operations is preferred.  The successful candidate will either hold a WT5 Certification from IDEM or will be required to obtain one.

 

The Maintenance position requires mechanical ability, understanding of plumbing and electrical principles. Must be knowledgeable in troubleshooting plumbing, mechanical, and minor electrical problems and able to make repairs as required. Must be capable of using various types of power-assisted tools.  Additionally, the position requires:  ability to lift 75 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and wear the necessary PPE; high school diploma or equivalent; valid Indiana Drivers License; knowledge in the use of computers; capability of being contacted for after-hours call-in or fill-in for Operation Specialists on a rotating shift as required.  Two (2) years of work experience in plant maintenance or drinking water treatment plant operations is preferred. The successful candidate will either hold a WT5 Certification from IDEM or will be required to obtain one.
