The Competition Committee works to promote camaraderie among the membership and to increase member involvement through contests like Meter Madness that highlight the knowledge and skills of our operator members.

The American Water Works Association has worked to develop ways to enhance skills and increase professionalism of operators and maintenance personnel in the water industry. Three operator competitions are organized through AWWA. Complementing the Pipe Tapping Contest and Top Ops is Meter Madness. AWWA's Meter Madness challenges contestants to put together a completely disassembled meter against the clock. To make the contest more interesting, three to six miscellaneous parts are included in the bucket of meter components. Once the meter is assembled, it must operate correctly and not leak.
